Abbotsford Police suggest: Don’t post photos while on vacation

Social-media posts can tip off crooks that your home is vacant

The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) has issued a few social-media tips for people travelling over the holidays to keep their home from being a target for crooks.

The department suggests that you:

• wait until you are home before posting about your vacation on social media

• don’t post or tweet that you are leaving town

• don’t “check in” to a vacation spot using social media

• don’t let vacation buddies tag you in their posts/photos

• disable location services on your phone

• discuss social media safety with your family

• have a good friend or neighbour check on your home every day or two and give you updates
