ScotiaBank employees Laura Bishop and Kathy Oystrick took advantage of their company’s generous matching funds initiative to help SAINTS (Senior Animals In Need Today Society).

Both women, who are volunteers with the local animal organization, applied to head office for permission to hold a bake sale in the branch on First Avenue.

Now in its fifth year, the annual bake sale, which draws contributors from the bank, customers and volunteers, raised $5,000 for SAINTS, and when matched by ScotiaBank, the non-profit organization recently receive a $10,000 cheque to help with its operations.

Another ScotiaBank incentive for employees is a program which encourages volunteerism. Employees, once they have documented a minimum of 50 volunteer hours in a calendar year, can apply for a $1,000 donation to the charity of their choice.

Both Bishop and Oystrick, who volunteer many more hours a year, have made SAINTS their charity of choice.
