CCS prepares for Robbie Burns night on Saturday

Local Canadian Cancer Society fundraiser benefits many programs

The Canadian Cancer Society is hosting its fifth annual Robbie Burns Supper and Dance Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Cedarbrooke Chateau, located at 32331 Seventh Ave. The event gets underway at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar and dinner is served at 7:30 p.m.

Jimmy Logan, a volunteer with the local branch of the Canadian Caner Society, said the event is an important fundraiser for a number of projects, including pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtimes.

Logan said over the course of the past four years they’ve raised more than $35,000, including $13,200 last year.

He’s hoping they can top that total this year.

“The community has been so generous and we thank them for all their support. Hopefully we can top what we did last year,” said Logan.

This year’s event will feature music from Piper Down Band. There will also be silent and live auctions and a 50/50 draw.

Tickets for the event are $40 and are available at the CCS office at 33079B First Ave. or at the front desk at Cedarbrooke Chateau.
