Local businesses, community partners, families and students from Dewdney Elementary School came together on Sept. 30 to plant native trees and shrubs complementing their new outdoor educational naturescape known as The Den.

The community outdoor recreation and environment (CORE) program began at the school in 2014 with garden boxes and now includes a corn maze, espaliered apple trees, a winding swale, an outdoor shelter, a butterfly garden and a log play area.

Students and teachers are enthusiastic about the learning that is taking place in this natural setting.
