A long parade of cars, decorated in balloons and honking their horns, slowly travelled down 7th Avenue in Mission on Sunday afternoon.
As the cavalcade neared Chartwell Cedarbrooke Retirements Residence, one-by-one the vehicles turned into the curved driveway to honour Don and Clara Coubrough.
Don and Clara celebrated their 65th anniversary on May 20 and, on May 24, Don turned 90 years of age.
The couple was married in Carragana, Saskatchewan in 1955 and moved to Mission in 1979. They have five children, 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Normally, these two milestone dates would have been cause for a huge celebration. However, the COVID-19 situation cancelled any party plans.
Instead, family members and friends decided to hold a drive-by car parade in order to wish the Coubrough a happy anniversary and Don a happy birthday.
The event was a surprise for the happy couple, who were unaware of anything going on.
They were brought outside, sat in two chairs surrounded by balloons and old photos and then the parade began. Both Don and Clara were thrilled at the outpouring of love and were all smiles throughout the parade.
