The Mission Adopt-A-Block Society has received funding from the Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP) to support cleanup efforts and purchase new equipment for the Youth Environmental Stewardship Club.

The FWCP represents a partnership that works to conserve and enhance fish and wildlife impacted by BC Hydro dams.

“The Youth Environmental Stewardship Club highlights the extraordinary efforts of Mission’s youth in removing littered debris from our streams, parks, trails, and roadways.

“New equipment opens up further opportunities for them to explore and learn about our environment while contributing to the overall health and cleanliness of our community’s green spaces,” said Sophie Thomas, Mission Adopt-A-Block Society coordinator.

“We are delighted to receive the support of the FWCP and look forward to seeing the YES Club expand.”

Participation in the club often begins through efforts in school environment clubs or leadership courses. From there, students expand on their interests and concerns for the environment by participating in educational cleanups, mentoring younger students, and aiding in community events. In recent cleanup efforts, Mission Senior Secondary’s Environment Club students contributed to the clearing of 2,649 pounds of litter from Mission’s streets.
