Mission Library is hosting a fines amnesty day where library customers can return their overdue books to library staff and have their fines waved.

This event is in honour of former head librarian Marion Sharpe's recent passing and will be held Feb. 26 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Mission Community Archives will be putting on a poster display of Sharpe's life from 2 to 4 p.m. The display will include information on Sharpe's involvement with the community, including her work with the Mission Historical Society.

Fine amnesty day only applies only to overdue materials returned to library staff. It does not apply to any other location in the Fraser Valley Regional Library system. Library materials must be returned to library staff at a service desk. Fines will not be waived if late items are returned through the book drop. The amnesty will not apply to previous late fees on the account nor on billed items.

Sharpe passed away Jan. 15. She was passionate about books and the library. She was the Head Librarian at the then termed Mission Centennial Library when Mission Library was in a different building for more than 16 years.

She spent years working for the Fraser Valley Regional Library at the Mission branch. She was not only involved in the volunteer group, Mission Friends of the Library, but was also a charter member of the organization.

Mission Library is located on 33247 Second Ave. Call 604-826-6610 for more information.
