Food bank shelves bolstered after B.C. Thanksgiving Day

More than 250 volunteers visited approximately 11,443 homes in Mission and Abbotsford last week, and collected 13,993 pounds of non-perishable food, destined for local food banks.

The B.C. Thanksgiving Day gathering happened Sept. 17 and was sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and several businesses.

Across the province, food drive volunteers amassed an estimated 248,000 pounds of food for more than 30 local food banks this year. The total value of all financial and material support raised for this purpose exceeded $694,000.
