A $600 grant from Mission Community Foundation will help Zajac Ranch for Children to fund its composting initiative.
A Japanese Bokashi composting system has been implemented at the ranch – located on the shores of Stave Lake in northern Mission – which are are compact, easy to implement and return all composted organic material to the ground, resulting in healthier more nutrient-rich soil, according to a press release.
With less organic material going into solid waste bins, fewer loads are taken to the landfill.
The Zajac Ranch allows children and young adults with chronic, life-threatening and debilitating conditions to have a summer camp experience.
