Mission seniors can "Choose to Move" with a free program that boosts physical activity.
The Choose to Move health and wellness program returns to the Mission Leisure Centre this January for those 55 and older. The program is intended to create meaningful social connections in addition to the physical benefits.
“Choose to Move is not a fitness class. Unlike traditional programs that adopt a one-size-fits-all approach, Choose to Move recognizes the individuality of each participant,” a City of Mission news release reads.
Participants work one-on-one with an activity coach who crafts an activity plan tailored to their preferences and abilities. After consulting with a coach, the participating seniors connect with a group of peers for eight group meetings.
The sessions will provide an opportunity to share goals, stay accountable, and explore a wide range of health and wellness topics together. The meetings begin on Jan. 27 and are held on Mondays until April 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Those interested can preregister at the Mission Leisure Centre.
Active Aging Society, community partners, and the Province of British Columbia allow the program to remain free.
