Each Canadian Tire department hand-built its own hats

It was nearly a sell-out crowd for last Saturday’s Ascot Gala, an annual fundraiser which benefits the Mission Hospice Society.

Everyone was encouraged to create and/or wear their best hats to the themed event, which attracted 189 people to the Best Western.

The live and silent auctions were successful, said organizer Donna Lifford, especially the two surprise items donated by Mission Canadian Tire: red and white Team Canada jerseys signed by Hayley Wickenheiser. They sold for $800 and $650, respectively.

The best hat prize was won by Mary Lamblin, who took home a 60-minute massage and pedicure from Casa del Sol.
