Did you know that 40 per cent of B.C. adults lack the reading and writing skills needed to thrive in today’s knowledge-based society?
Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL) is campaigning to raise public awareness about the importance of adult literacy.
The campaign slogan, Read for Life, underlines the fact that literacy touches everything.
“Read for Life captures FVRL’s commitment to working with community partners to promote literacy skills and engage with adult learners,” says Kim Davison, literacy coordinator. “We want to get the word out that FVRL is here to help. Our friendly library staff is eager to connect adult learners with free learning materials and referrals to literacy tutoring programs.”
FVRL has produced a short film about adult literacy which includes interviews with adult learners who have discovered the library as the place to start improving their reading and writing skills. The video can be viewed on FVRL’s YouTube channel.
