The Abbotsford Police Department has solved a mystery that began last week involving a hand-painted stone.
The APD posted on social media that last week a detective located a small hand-painted stone tucked off to the side of their parking lot.
“Concerned that someone had lost a precious memory, he sought out the owner … to no avail,” the post reads.
It goes on to say that the department soon discovered that the stone was among several that have been spread throughout the community by a group of young people in memory of Letisha Reimer and “her strong desire to spread happiness and love.”
Reimer, 13, was killed Nov. 1, 2016 in a random stabbing at Abbotsford Senior Secondary that also seriously injured a 14-year-old girl.
The hand-painted stones are part of a initiative called Seeds of Love LR. On the group’s Facebook page, organizers encourage people to “paint a rock, hide a rock, find a rock” and share it on the page.
“We here at the AbbyPD think this initiative is pretty cool and, when you find one of these small painted treasures … you cannot help but smile,” the APD stated.
“Our detective keeps his stone on his desk as a warm memory of Letisha and her legacy.”
