Harrison to host Canada Day, gone virtual

Celebrations streaming online this year

For 2020’s most patriotic day, Harrison Hot Springs is trying something a little different.

Instead of its usual, very popular Canada Day celebration, the village is hosting a virtual celebration through the website and through the Facebook event page.

The day begins with a 9:15 a.m. Virtual Yoga session with Crystal Spirit, followed by a virtual pet parade beginning at 10:30 a.m.

QUIZ: How well do you know Canadian trivia?

The pet parade has been a feature of Canada Day in Harrison since 2014. Those who want to participate can dress their pets in their Canadian best and submit photos to canadadaypetparade@gmail.com. The deadline is June 15. Canada Day outfits can feature the flag, a favourite Canadian sports team or the beloved Sasquatch.

The opening ceremony takes place at noon, followed by a number of shows including Andy Hillhouse with Mark Sullivan, Ryan McAllister and Rockwell. The event will be capped off with virtual fireworks starting at 10 p.m. Children’s activities will be available throughout the day.

The festivities will be streamed via YouTube, Facebook and at tourismharrison.com.
