More than 120 people attended the 24th annual Celebration of Women, organized as part of the Mission Community Archives Paths and Pathfinder Program.

Those who attended the Oct. 19 event were able to meet, learn about and be inspired by the extraordinary women honoured through the night.

The lives and contributions of this year’s honourees – Olene Chaplin, Deborah Handley and Denyse Tavener – were celebrated in style with a performance by the Mission-based Serenata Singers followed by special heart-warming moments, uproarious laughter, an unforgettable community sing, and a Flo Erskine (1916-2013) group hug led by Mission archivist Val Billesberger.

As is customary, all those previously honoured who were in attendance were acknowledged. The biographies of all the women recognized through the program since it started in 1996 can be viewed on the Mission Community Archives website at missionarchives.com.
