Photographic sun prints created by students of Ecole Mission Central Elementary are now on exhibit at the Mission Library, Leisure Centre, Mission Museum and The Penny Cafe.

This spring students worked with artist-in-residence Brenna Maag on a project that encouraged them to explore an important place in their surrounding neighbourhood.

Classes visited Lane Creek Park (the ravine behind the library), the Mission Museum, the Central Community Garden, and the Mission Leisure Centre.

During their visits they recorded their ideas about each location and the important role it plays in the community by drawing in a hand-made sketch book.

Using their drawings, and collected materials they made cyanotypes, a 170-year-old photographic process where light sensitive paper reacts with UV light from the sun resulting in a blue and white print.

Student artwork will be on display until June 27.
