Sixteen students will be representing Mission at the 17th annual Fraser Valley Regional Heritage Fair this month.

The Hatzic Elementary School students were selected last Thursday by a group of seven judges who studied each display and interviewed the creators. Students were judged on the project content, its importance to Canadian history, and presentation.

The 10 projects selected are:

• BC Ambulance Service, by Madison Street

• Northern Gateway Pipeline, by Mari-lynn Bonnett

• Fraser River Floods, by Ashley Smith

• Sturgeon Fishing, by Sonny Joe, Keith Spoute, Nick McGiveron

• Ice Dance Champions, by Keanna Peters

• BC Outfitters, by Ben Greenwell

• Wayne Gretzky, by Nick Park, Brian Dale, Payton Royan

• Chinatown, by Marcy Wang, Tabitha Marches

• Fishing in BC, by Jeni Brown, Angelica Evengelista

• Emily Carr, by Emmi Haikkila

A total of 150 students from the Fraser Valley will be participating in the regional fair taking place April 9-10 at Tradex in Abbotsford.

The regional fair will be open to the public from 6 to 6:45 p.m. on April 10. Awards and presentations will begin at 7 p.m. Judges will review the project on April 9 and select five students to advance to the Provincial Heritage Fair in Victoria in July.
