Mission will be participating in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge from June 1-30 in an effort to be named Canada’s Most Active Community.

According to a press release from Mission Parks, Recreation & Culture, helping to strengthen communities through physical activity and sport, the Community Better Challenge is awarding $100,000 to the community who rallies the most participants, community organizations and accumulates the most active minutes during the challenge.

In 2019 Mission participated and was the winner of the BC Community award which provided a $10,000 prize. The funds were given back to local community groups in the form of micro-grants.

“We know that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought many challenges and many of us have had to adjust to cancelled or virtual programming. Now more than ever, it’s important to find ways to connect with our friends, family and community and the Community Better Challenge can help us do so, safely! Please remember that Public Health Orders in place must be followed with all activities,” the release states.

Organizers encourage all residents of Mission to download the ParticipACTION app or go online to log their minutes throughout the month of June.

Several local groups and schools will also be hosting challenges, working within the Public Health restrictions, so people can take the opportunity to get involved. Every move counts, whether it is an evening walk, yoga class, kids swimming lesson or gardening in the yard.
