Mission Victim Services recruiting volunteer

A number of volunteer information sessions are happening in the next few weeks

Mission's Victim Services Unit is hosting volunteer information sessions.

The services provides emotional support to victims, witnesses and other traumatized individuals, and the volunteer follows a case through until the end, liaising with police and providing court updates. They can make referrals to other agencies and lead clients through the court process.

We are recruiting people with a sincere desire to help in their community, said coordinator Gina Lehmberg.

Applicants must be at least 20 years old, of good character, have no criminal record and have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Volunteers are expected to put in one four-hour office shift per week, four 12-hour call-out crisis shifts per month, and attend one three-hour staff meeting per month.

Info sessions happen Sept. 29 at 10:30 a.m., Oct. 4 at 10 a.m., and Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.

To register for one of the 60-minute sessions call 604-820-3538. Classroom training starts  in November.
