Mission’s snow plows get punny new names

Ctrl Salt Delete, The Big Leplowski, Plowy McPlowface and others are now named members of the fleet

Mission’s snow plows will head into the next storm with new identities.

In a City of Mission Facebook post, the city revealed the names chosen for its snow-clearing fleet submitted through the city’s naming contest. The newly-named snow plows are: Thaw Patrol, Blade of Glory, For Your Ice Only, Snowbi Wan Kenobi, Ctrl Salt Delete, The Big Leplowski, Fast and Flurryous, Blizzard Blaster, McPlowerson, Perry the Plowtapus, Plowy McPlowface, Darth Blader, Ice Scream Truck.

The City of Mission’s fleet of snow-clearing vehicles features eight sander/plows, two brine and belly plows, one front and belly plow sander, three backhoes, one grader and one front-end loader.

When snow needs to be cleared, there are 26 full-time staff working 1,035 hours per week. The city says there are 29,000 metres of priority one routes to be cleared when snow hits, 46,500 metres of priority two routes, with 268,000 metres of remaining routes, 103,69 metres of sidewalks and 178 cul-de-sacs.
