New non-profit fosters friendship and understanding

Mission International Cultural Association (MICA), one of the newest non-profit groups in Mission, has been busy preparing for upcoming events.

On Aug. 9, MICA will be hosting a membership drive at Fraser River Heritage Park for this newly created association. Its purpose is to foster international and intercultural friendships and understanding. MICA will do this by:

• operating as a charity to fundraise and allocate funds to promote understanding between cultures and people of various countries around the world;

• acting as a co-coordinator for volunteers and organizations who wish to promote international and intercultural understanding;

• conducting activities and programs which foster this understanding.

Association members are anticipating a visit in 2013 from Mission's sister city of Oyama, Japan with planning starting early in 2012.

Mission citizens interested in membership are invited to contact Pam Alexis at palexis@cafsystems.com or 604-302-2005.
