Nominations are open for the annual City of Mission Heritage Award.
The heritage award honours individuals, groups, and businesses and their efforts to protect, enhance and restore Mission’s heritage resources.
“Now more than ever, our community is looking for a way to stay connected to our traditions and the ties that bind us,” said Mayor Paul Horn in a news release. “That’s why the city wants to recognize examples of excellence of preserving or enhancing heritage features. We rely upon input from community members and groups, and would love to hear from you.”

Ron Stefanucci was awarded the first ever Mission Heritage Award plaque last February after the substantial work he and his team undertook to restore the Alanson’s Hardware, Sash and Doors building located on First Avenue.
The Heritage Award Program was established by the Heritage Commission, with awards previously distributed from 2008 to 2022 with intermittent breaks. Previous recipients include Rex Cox Menswear, Mission Community Archives, Rocko’s Diner, Mission District Historical Society, and Royal Canadian Legion Br. 57, among others.
Nominations are accepted for three categories: Special Heritage Achievement, Education & Promotion of Heritage, and Conservation of Built Environment, Streetscapes, and Landscapes.
The awards are presented annually during BC Heritage Week, which runs Feb. 20-26 this year. Applications for the award can be found on mission.ca.
