A group that held “puppy raves” at the Bateman off-leash dog park over the last several weeks is forming a club this month and hopes to organize more events over the winter.
The group held its first weekly Friday rave in September in which dogs and their owners were encouraged to come decked out in glow-in-the-dark gear.
The last such event took place last Friday (Nov. 1), when there was a Halloween theme and prizes awarded for the best costumes in several categories.
The club is now tentatively named BP3D for Bateman Park Drainage Ditch Dogs. (The park is actually a storm run-off ditch with big iron gates that lead to Stoney Creek.)
The purpose of the club, apart from social activities, is to lobby for more and larger off-leash dog areas in Abbotsford.
The group has a meeting tentatively planned in December with the city’s parks, recreation and culture advisory committee to discuss the matter.
Possible upcoming events include a large “Puppypalooza” for the Lower Mainland, as well as more “puppy raves.”
Updates will be provided online at Facebook.com/groups/batemandogpark.
The off-leash area is located in Bateman Park on Bateman Road just west of Wright Street.
