The annual Mission Soapbox Derby takes place Saturday morning.

The annual Soapbox Derby is a Mission tradition, and it all starts tomorrow (Saturday, June 23) with setup at 6:30 a.m., registration at 7:30 a.m. and opening ceremonies at 8:30 a.m.

Young racers, age eight to 14 years old, will battle it out on the steep Stave Lake Street hill to 11th Avenue.

The Mission Soapbox Derby is nationally known and some contestants in the past have even competed in the U.S., in the famous Akron, Ohio derby.

The Soapbox Derby is a great family event and there is something for everyone, beside enjoying the drama of the races.

Food vendors, various booths, and contests are all a part of the fun program.

The hot dog and pudding eating contests are at noon and are for youth only.
