Rotary Club of Mission 50/50 winner receives almost $10,000

The Rotary’s share will go towards programs such as the literacy bus and Starfish Backpack

The Rotary Club of Mission drew the winner of its annual 50/50 draw on Tuesday (Feb. 14) at The Blackberry Kitchen.

Craig Grant of Kelowna won the grand total of $9,745. The fundraiser sold $19,490 worth of tickets, with the Rotary Club bringing in the other half of the 50/50.

Rotary president Elspeth Bowers, who called Grant with the good news, says the money raised will go towards supporting the the organization’s various programs.

Rotary scholarships, the Starfish Backpack program and Mission’s literacy bus will all receive support with the funds.

“These are ongoing, long-term programs that have been running for many years and obviously, we need funds to support them,” Bowers said. “The Rotary itself — we are not people that have very deep pockets. We all bought tickets in this draw. It’s probably a good thing we didn’t win.”

The draw was completed securely online.
