Soapbox success: Annual derby a hit with racers, fans

Plenty of people turned out for the annual Mission Soapbox Derby on the weekend. Check out all the winners.

The annual Mission Soapbox Derby took place on Saturday on Stave Lake Street.

Participants got behind the wheel and raced down the street in a fun, yet competitive summer tradition.

Racers were separated into age groups and raced against each other to crown a champion.

The following are the 2016 results:

Ages 8-9

1. Better Bradbury

Ages 10-11

1. Aaron Grewal

2. Barrett Kitsch

3. Canaan Woll

 

Ages 12-14

1. William Dobric

2. Anna Theobald

3. Beckett Evens

First place finishers in each age category received a $500 bursary.

Others soapbox derby winners included:

  • Emma Harley received a new bike as she was won the Mission Canadian Tire Sportsmanship Award.
  • The Simon Gibson award ($50) went to Jon Phillip.
  • There were also awards for the top girl rookie (Eva Stenhouse) and top boy rookie (Enapay Hobart).
