Women who serve as the primary wage earners for their families and are in need of financial assistance to continue their education or receive training can now apply for an award from the Abbotsford-Mission Soroptimist Club.

The local club will provide a cash grant to its recipient(s) of the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Education and Training Award for Women.

The recipient(s) at the local level will then advance to the Soroptimist Western Canada level, where recipients can receive up to an additional $5,000.

The program culminates with three finalist $10,000 awards.

Recipients can use the Live Your Dream Award to offset costs associated with higher education or additional skills and training. This includes tuition, books, childcare and transportation.

The Live Your Dream Award provides more than $2 million in cash grants to head-of-household women in need each year.

The Abbotsford-Mission club was founded in 1981 as part of Soroptimist International of the Americas, which works to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

There are almost 80,000 Soroptimists in 120 countries and territories.

The application deadline for the Live Your Dream Award is Nov. 15 at soroptimist.org (scroll down and click on “apply for an education award”).
