Lace up your sneakers and get moving with the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (FVHCF).

For the sixth year now, supporters of the foundation will gather at Abbotsford Centre for the Step Up 4 Cardiac Health. This year’s event is planned for Feb. 26, and will once again see participants challenge each other on the stairs.

There are 751 stairs per lap and last year’s winner, Quin Bartsch, was able to complete a whopping 17 laps. That’s about 12,767 stairs.

“We challenge you to beat that,” said Leslie Gmur, fund development coordinator with the foundation.

“Time to challenge yourself, co-workers, friends and family to see who can do the most stairs and win the coveted trophy for bragging rights,” she added.

But the event is open to all abilities, with many people choosing to walk the concourse or take the stairs slowly.

“You don’t need to be a fitness fanatic to participate in this event,” said Bryan Bartsch, president of sponsoring partner Ecotex Healthcare Linen Services.

Funds raised from Step Up 4 Cardiac Health will help purchase needed equipment for the cardiac department at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre. To register and start fundraising, or to donate or request a sponsorship package, visit www.fvhcf.ca/events or call 1-877-661-0314.

Registration for the event is also available in person on Feb. 26 at the Abbotsford and begins at 8 a.m. The event starts at 9 a.m.
