Students’ knowledge tested

Mission Senior team places second in Mind Grind, a contest that asked questions focused on climate change, energy and more.

A team from Mission Senior Secondary took second place in the Environmental Mind Grind contest held on April 23.

A team of students from Rick Hansen Secondary in Abbotsford won $1,500 after taking first place in the Environmental Mind Grind contest.

Placing second behind the Hansen “Hurrigreens” was a team from Mission Senior Secondary, who won $500. W. J. Mouat placed third, winning $250.

The prize money goes toward environmental initiatives at the schools.

The event, held Saturday, April 23, was hosted by the Abbotsford Mission Recycling Program.

During this academic trivia contest, student teams from different schools competed to answer questions focused on climate change, energy, forests, transportation/air quality, waste, water, and species and spaces.

Students prepared for the competition by reviewing the material in the contest study guide.

The Mind Grind was sponsored by Fortis B.C., the Rotary Club of Abbotsford-Matsqui, the City of Abbotsford, the District of Mission and Abbotsford Community Services.
