Organizers of the Stuff the Bus fundraiser for the victims of the Fort McMurray fires were hoping to fill a small bus with donated items.

By the time Saturday’s event was over, they did much more than that.

While the Chartwell Cedarbrooke retirement residence bus was definitely full, the donors who came by Save-On-Foods brought enough items to fill an additional 53-foot transport trailer to the brim.

Additionally, through donations of gift cards and hot dog purchases, organizers raised $1,089 in funds, which was used to purchase Save-On-Foods gift certificates so that Edmonton Emergency Relief Services can utilize them to procure whatever items they may need for their clients and volunteers.

The transport truck to Edmonton left Tuesday and all items were directed to the Edmonton Emergency Relief Services distribution centre, which is coordinating the on-the-ground efforts.
