By the time they are done, Kazrah Lohrasb, Langley City's Supt. of Parks Operations said his "fantastic" crews will have put up more than 150,000 Christmas lights.
"Staff helped install over 180 pole mounts and decorated 220 trees," Lohrasb told the Langley Advance Times.
On Monday, Nov. 25, Jake Mosca and Christina Keserich were stringing lights in Douglas Park.
Mosca said they'd been at it for a couple of weeks by then, calling it a "very, very busy" time.
"Once we kind of get the city up and running, it's nice to see them [the lights] at night, seeing all your hard work pay off," Mosca commented.
Keserich smiled as she described herself as Santa's little helper."
Valerie Philpot, who lives near the park, was glad to see the lights going up, even if there were fewer than previous years.
"Last year, and the year before, and the year before that, it was fully loaded and it was beautiful," Philpot remarked.
"There were so many people who come here to take pictures. I've got lots of pictures taken too, with my relatives."
When the Langley City Christmas parade had ti be cancelled, some of its budget was redirected to increase the number of lights.
The City’s Magic of Christmas Committee announced the cancellation of the 2022 Magic of Christmas Parade after a change in WorkSafe BC regulations boosted expenses.
The committee usually relies on volunteers to help with traffic control, but the changes called for only qualified flag persons to carry out that duty.
As a result, the Magic of Christmas parade committee made the decision to provide funding to the parks department, to purchase additional Christmas light display items
