Volunteers needed to cook turkeys

Annual L.I.N.C. Christmas dinner being held Dec. 12

The L.I.N.C. (Long-term Inmates Now in the Community) Society needs volunteers to help roast turkeys for its 17th annual clean and sober Christmas dinner.

The dinner will be held on Dec. 12 at St. Andrew's United Church, 7756 Grand St.

"We cannot cook all of the birds at the church," said Sherry Edmunds-Flett, executive director for the society. "If anyone is willing to cook a bird for us, L.I.N.C. will supply the bird and the roaster."

The group needs to cook 18 turkeys and four hams for the event, and so far nine birds are being cooked off site. The prepared food should be brought to the church by 3 p.m. on Dec. 12.

Everything is made from scratch, according to Edmunds-Flett, who notes there will also be stuffing, potatoes, corn, peas, carrots, cranberries, cookies and pies.

About 300 guests are expected to attend the free dinner, which is open to the public. Santa will also be making an appearance.

Anyone who can help can contact the group through its Facebook page or call 604-820-1015.
