WATCH: UFV opens doors for all to try trades and tech tools

Public invited to try out welding, robotics and more at Chilliwack campus

The public had a chance to test their drag race reaction times, watch heavy equipment simulators, and even try their hand at aircraft riveting, pneumatic controls, laser cutting and air-brushing.

The University of the Fraser Valley’s Trades and Technology Centre opened its doors to the public for its annual open house. The centre had everything on display, including 3D printers, CNC routers, robotics arms, and automotive bays.

Students and instructors walked visitors through the centre, explaining each area and helping prospective students with activities in each station. There were also information stations set up to help those interested explore training options at UFV, including Red Seal certifications.

The open house was held in conjunction with the Skills Canada (Fraser Valley Regional) competitions, which took place March 1.
