With the holidays creeping right around the corner, it’s no secret that the school year is already flying by. But that surely didn’t stop the students and staff at Mission Secondary School from having a blast over the past month.

From exciting lunchtime activities to competitive sporting events, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

To start, musical theatre rehearsals have officially begun. The actors, orchestra, and crew are all getting ready to put on a production of High School Musical early next year. Some other clubs meeting every week include the Jack Chapter youth mental health group, Dungeons and Dragons club, environmental club, fashion club, art club, robotics club, racing team and our global and outdoor education courses.

Next, the MSS athletics department had a great end to the fall season. The junior and senior football teams played various games in the lower mainland this year. And the junior and senior boys and girls volleyball teams played well at their games around the province.

Also, the junior and senior girls basketball team and the lacrosse team have been practicing and getting their game on. The top runners at MSS competed in races across the lower mainland with our very own cross country team. Good job to all the athletes, go Roadrunners!

Lastly, our MSS leadership group made an enormous contribution to school spirit this term. They did not shy away from challenges and did a fantastic job enriching the school culture and community.

At each lunchtime, there were activities in the gym during our fall spirit week, including a movie screening, carnival, relay race, and even a Halloween costume fashion show. Our exciting traditions this past month were the spooky Halloween decorations lurking around the school, a virtual pumpkin carving contest, and a Diwali celebration hosted in the gym.

Overall, both students and staff at MSS came together this past month to create an enjoyable atmosphere amongst everyone.

With fun events, sports, clubs, and courses, involvement within the school community was no stranger to many. We are all looking forward to more of this in term two and beyond.
