SEPT. 3: Ford Canada will donate $20 to the charities Youth Unlimited and Operation Christmas Child (shoe boxes) for each test drive between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at Prospera Credit Union at the corner of Cedar Connector and Highway 7. There are no salespeople and you won’t be put on a mailing list.

SEPT. 10: Bring sensitive documents you want destroyed to Vancity’s fourth annual Shred-a-thon at the Mission Community Branch at the Junction between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Cost is by donation with proceeds going to the Mission Women’s Resource Society. Suggested donation: $10. First 100 people get a free gift. Hot dogs, chips and pop, as well as door prizes.

 

SEPT. 12: Reel on the River series presents In a Better World, the 2010 Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film at Mission SilverCity at 7 p.m. Danish with English subtitles, the story tells of a physician working in war-torn Africa who is confronted by tragedy and loss. Tix: $10 at the door or $35 for all five films.

SEPT. 17: Celebrate Mission at Fraser River Heritage Park as the community comes together to enjoy the entertainment of a multitude of events throughout the day. The lanterns which folks have made at the Mission Association for Community Living tent will be lit during the evening at Illuminaria, and at night there will be fireworks. The fun starts at 10:00 a.m. Non-profits can register tables for $5 with the Leisure Centre.

SEPT. 21: Lifetime Learning Centre celebrates its 25th anniversary with a special Open House featuring keynote speaker Dr. Mark Evered, president of the University of the Fraser Valley.
