Earlier this month, the Mission School District honoured Salish Wesley, a twin-spirited Sto:lo and published educator, at a ceremony at the Clarke Theatre.

Peggy Janicki, the school district’s Indigenous Mentor teacher, has woven a beautiful blanket that was gifted to Wesley as part of the SOGI 123 Salish Weaving project.

As part of the project, a Salish weaving has been woven in the LGBTQ flag colours at Mission Senior Secondary School. This project created a safe space, dialogue about SOGI 123, LGBTQ, and Wesley’s Halq’eméylem term, Twin-Spirited.

Also, it shared Indigenous knowledges / world views via the traditional Salish weaving process.
