Mission’s Red Mountain Renegades, a cowboy action shooting discipline located at the Mission and District Rod and Gun Club, is hosting the Canadian National Championships on the weekend.

Running from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2, participants from all areas of Canada, the U.S. and a few from Europe will come to Mission to compete.

Friday is a warmup day where competitors will be gathering up their gear and ensuring everything is in order. The actual competition match begins Saturday at 9 a.m. and runs until about 3 p.m. both days.

According to organizers, the sport has a friendly atmosphere and participants go out of their way to make certain everyone else is having fun. Cowboys and cowgirls from 15 to 85 years of age will be competing.

Participants dress up in period clothing, and have a fictitious cowboy/cowgirl name.
