The summertime concert series takes a break this Friday as the Mission Folk Music Festival comes to town, but the sultry sounds of KokoSoul will fill the park July 31.

Based in Vancouver, KokoSoul is a fusion of blues, jazz, pop, reggae, bossa nova, R&B funk, Motown, and rock, blended into a deliciously smooth musical cocktail.

With their combined background in live performance, studio recording, writing and producing, KokoSoul came together to form a duo most known for taking classic favourites from a wide range of genres and infusing them with their creative, soulful richness. This dynamic pair of musicians features the combination of Karina Morin’s melodic, powerful vocals and the percussive, groove-based skills of Karlo Martin on keyboards.

Morin’s sweet, feathery tones are a direct contrast to her breath-taking, soulful power. Using her own creative interpretation, she can bring a song to life, touching your heart in a way only she can. Martin’s silky keyboard skills reflect his effervescent, affable personality. Renowned for his versatility, he has performed at the very highest level, with such greats as Tina Turner.

From Etta James to Adele, from Bob Marley to Neil Young and everything in between, KokoSoul’s tasty interpretations capture the hearts of their audiences.

Twice weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 to 8 p.m., bring a lawn chair or blanket and settle in for a range of live music at Fraser River Heritage Park. The Blackberry Kitchen and The Log Cabin Café are open. Admission to the concerts is free, but donations are encouraged.
