Mission Arts Council is wrapping up its 40th year with a celebration at the Clarke Theatre on Feb. 9.
It’ll be like a year review, said MAC executive director Nancy Arcand about the event.
Highlights from the 40th year include the pirate-themed Children’s Festival, large Christmas Craft Market and the inaugural Halloween Haunted Mansion.
Mission Youth Arts Council (MYAC) was also created last year to encourage young artists to get involved and follow their creativity. The young artists played a key role in organizing the Haunted Mansion from making props to performing arts.
MAC was incorporated in February 1972 and had in office inside the Leisure Centre before moving into its current location on First Avenue in 2000, said Arcand.
Since taking over the house, the group has established a gallery, which showcases numerous artists throughout the year, and a tea room to help raise some funds.
The Celebration of the Arts will begin at 6:30 p.m. and entertainment will start at 7 p.m. Back Door Slam, Alex Rake and the Leaves, Opening Nite Theatre, Trent Tinney, Serenata Singers, Tangerine, Anwynn Studio and Cloggers and Doris Paterson are all scheduled to perform. MYAC is also organizing a poetry slam.
There will also be a silent auction showcasing the arts, static displays and demonstrations by artists. In the cafeteria, there will be appies and wine tastings.
Zombies and pirates will be roaming around to promote the Children’s Festival and the Haunted House, added Arcand.
