Mission artist, Robert Syrenne has created a stone bowl for Universal Studios in Hollywood, California.
The local artist, who runs RS Arts, carved the bowl as a custom water fountain feature being built at the famous studio.
Syrenne transformed an original raw stone of black chlorite of roughly 1,100 pounds into a finished carving which will be the centerpiece of the water fountain.
The finished bowl measured approximately 26 inches in diameter by 10 inches in depth, and incorporated a hand carved petal design on the underside.
Syrenne also carved custom stone weirs to be used in the fountain in a matching stone.
“Having been contacted specifically and selected to create this very unique stone carving as a focal piece on this special project has been very gratifying and is definitely the highlight of my stone carving thus far,” said Syrenne.
The Mission artist started stone carving about eight years ago as a hobby, with plans to eventually turn it into a full-time art endeavor with hopes to someday open a local art studio for his work.
His carving talent and creations have become very popular, keeping him busier than expected.
His drive and passion is to create unique “one of a kind” stone carvings, replicating the hand crafting process using basic hand tools for many aspects of his carving creations, similar to ancient creations of the past.
Many of his pieces have been sold locally and throughout North America and even Europe.
