A local first-time author hopes his poetry helps others as much as it has helped him.

Daniel David Bergin, a long-time Mission resident who works in the film industry, recently published The Power Source of Love, an anthology of 88 poems ranging from romantic love to universal themes of kindness, forgiveness and gratitude.

But these poems weren’t always meant for a wider audience.

Bergin started writing poetry over 10 years ago when he sent love letters to the woman he was dating at the time but saw infrequently. For Bergin, writing helped him focusing on the good things in his life.

“I was in a relationship and it wasn’t going the way I wanted to. I wasn’t able to see the woman I was in love with,” he said.

“At first I kind of did it to help myself, and after a while I thought this could really help people.”

When he was feeling alone, Bergin says focusing on love through poetry helped raise his energy or frequency, as he calls it, giving him a more positive outlook.

“I’m just a normal guy, but I always try to have love in my heart. If I have other interrupting thoughts, negative thoughts, those thoughts are not serving me anymore,” he says. “It’s just putting positive thoughts out there, and love.”

“Love is the highest vibrational frequency: it’s something worth attaining.”

For Bergin, focusing on love and positivity has been a healing experience in his life, and he hopes others will benefit as he has.

“Maybe people can use it as a handbook if they’re feeling down: take it out and read a couple poems,” Bergin says.

“If everyone just had love in their heart, we wouldn’t hurt each other: we would be giving to each other, we would be making this world a better place.”

“I pray in my heart that this helps people.”

As for what’s next, there may be another book for him in the near future. Bergin says he has over 500 poems at home, and he is constantly adding to his collection.

Bergin’s book The Power Source of Love can be purchased online at Chapters as an EBook or paperback.
