A Rivet of Robots: Second Gear is currently on display at Rock Family Gallery located inside the Mission Arts Centre (33529 First Ave.).

Robots will be invading the Mission Arts Centre again as artist Lynne Taylor Fahnestalk presents A Rivet of Robots: Second Gear at the Rock Family Gallery (33529 First Ave.)

The show runs Aug. 21 to Sept. 8 and features Fahnestalk’s unique sculptures made from upcycled metal objects.

An opening reception is scheduled for Aug. 25 from 1-4 p.m. There will also be a “Build a Bot” demonstration from 2-3:30 p.m.

The gallery is open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to Sundays.

This is the second showing of Fahnestalk’s work as the original A Rivet of Robots exhibit was in Mission in November of 2016.

Artist Statement:

About five years ago I started making robot sculptures from upcycled metal objects in order to create a science fiction Christmas wreath.

The robots were so much fun to make that I never did finish the wreath and my artwork took an entirely new direction.

Before making Bots I spent many years as an illustrator and professional cartoonist. Some have called my Bots 3-D cartoons and I like that comparison.

Each Bot is unique and each is securely constructed using drilling and screws – I do not use glue or solder or welding. I especially enjoy the ‘treasure hunt’ search for parts to create my Bots— garage sales and flea markets are my friends.

The question I am asked most often about my Bots is, “Do they move?” And my answer is, “Not when I’ve been looking.”
