Mission Secondary jazz and concert band members had a successful run at a recent music festival in Whistler.

Mission Senior Secondary’s concert and jazz bands traveled to Whistler at the end of April to participate in the Whistler International Cantando Music Festival.

The festival was a resounding success, with everyone bringing their best performances to the stage.

A total of 35 Mission students joined the more than 4,000 students from all over North America who attended the festival.

The trombone section from the local jazz band, led by Ryan Bowie, got an honorable mention for being the best jazz trombone section at the festival, and lead trumpet player Madison Adams received accolades from the judge during adjudication.

Both the concert and jazz band received silver medals in their classes.

This was an outstanding feat for the students, who had never played together as a group before school started in September.

The Mission students are now looking forward to the year-end concert, which takes place June 1 at 7 p.m. in the Clarke Theatre.

Tickets are available at the door the night of the show.
