Tuesdays with Morrie opens on Wednesday

Gallery 7 Theatre in Abbotsford begins its 21st season next Wednesday with a reproduction of Tuesdays with Morrie at the Pacific Theatre in Vancouver.

This production will feature the acting talents of Glen Pinchin of Chilliwack, the directing talents of Carissa Boynton of Mission, and the design talents of artists from across the Lower Mainland, says Ken Hildebrandt, Gallery 7’s founder and executive artistic director.

Tuesdays with Morrie is an adaptation of the 1997 non-fiction novel by American writer Mitch Albom about the true story of retired sociology professor Morrie Schwartz and his relationship with his students.

The show runs from Sept. 14 to 24 in Vacouver, before the production returns to the MEI Theatre in Abbotsford for the 2011-12 season.

Here is the line-up:

The Outsiders: A powerful tale about youth caught in a violent clash between social classes during the 1960s. Runs Nov. 4 to 19.

Robinson Crusoe: Shipwrecked on a deserted island following a violent storm, imperialist and explorer, Robinson Crusoe experiences a crisis of faith and undergoes a spiritual and emotional transformation. Runs Jan. 20 to Feb. 4.

The Importance of Being Earnest: A hilarious, yet biting social satire of Victorian morals and manners, Oscar Wilde’s most famous comedy is a masterfully written romp featuring an absurd case of mistaken identity, and explores matters of love, marriage and social status. Runs March 9 to 24.

The Fantastiks: Set on a simple platform suggesting a timeless period and nameless location, a story of love plays out as young sweet-hearts enjoy innocent bliss and romance. Runs June 8 to 23.

Tickets are $18 for evening shows, or $13 for matinees. You can also buy a season pass.
