The Wonder Women Society presented an International Women’s Month Celebration at the Clarke Theatre in Mission last Friday.

The event featured a performance by multi-award-winning Bonnie Kilroe.

Kilroe brought her DIVAS: Vegas to Vaudeville show to the stage, which is one-part tribute and one-part farce, with over 40 songs, more than 20 characters — from standard icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Dolly Parton and Cher, to less iconic though equally well-known stars such as Edith Bunker, Mae West, and Lady Gaga.

Wonder Women Society events are multi-faceted, bringing to light one or more of their primary mandates for women in BC: health, employment, education and women in business.

The Wonder Women Society presented its first scholarships of the year to two exceptional young women. Dana Koop of Abbotsford was awarded the Prospera Credit Union scholarship for Women in Business for $1,000 and Kashish Arya of Mission was awarded the Swing Optical scholarship for women for $500.

The society’s Woman of the Month Award went to Mission Councillor Pam Alexis, who was described by Mayor Randy Hawes as a “workhorse” for the community.

Anyone interested in being part of future events or initiatives can contact the society at info@wonderwomensociety.com or send a message through the Facebook page.
