Liberal candidate for Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge riding launches campaign

Three all-candidates meetings are coming up ahead of the Monday, April 28, election

Liberal candidate for the Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge riding, which includes west Mission, kicked off her campaign Wednesday evening.

The event took place April 9, along 224 Street, at the former Silver Valley Brewing site, in Maple Ridge, where Angie Rowell addressed Liberal supporters about building a stronger community.

Rowell also talked about strengthening local infrastructure, affordable housing, access to healthcare, and education.

In a release Rowell described herself as a lifelong Maple Ridge resident who has served on several local committees to support youth and families, including the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Youth Center Society.

Her career in finance began in 1986 at the Bank of BC and the Maple Ridge Community Credit Union and since then she has worked in financial services, sales, and management, across North America.

She is a proud hockey and ringette mom and a part-time foster parent for 13 years.

Rowell is married with two children.

She is running against New Democrat Party candidate Daniel Heydenrych, Chris Lehner running for the People's Party of Canada;  Peter Buddle with the Rhinoceros Party of Canada; and incumbent Marc Dalton with the Conservative Party of Canada.

Green Party of Canada candidate Laura Anderson dropped out of the running by the April 7th deadline for candidate nominations.

There are three all-candidates meetings coming up:

• the first one tonight at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 10 – doors open at 6:30 p.m. – at the Maple Ridge Seniors Activity Centre, 12150 224 St., Maple Ridge;

• 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at Whonnock Lake Centre, 27871 113 Ave., in Maple Ridge;

• and from 5 to 7 p.m. on April 24, at Meadowridge, 12224 240 St., Maple Ridge.

The Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge election boundaries were re-drawn due to population changes and now also includes a large chunk of Mission. The boundary extends as far east as Silvermere Lake, Silverdale, and continues all the way to Wren Street – taking in the Mission RCMP and Walmart store. Further north, the new riding also includes half of the Stave Lake and the Steelhead rural area of Mission.

Election day is Monday, April 28.

Although, Elections Canada offices are open across the country and anyone can vote early at any one of them by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, using the special ballot process.

The Elections Canada office for Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge  is located at 19100 Airport Way, suite 517, in the Golden Ears Business Park in Pitt Meadows.
