Campaign raises $1,385 for Mission’s MY House

20 high quality backpacks, plus contents purchased with the funds

Mission Youth House is a ground breaking organization that is dedicated to helping at risk youth in Mission. They function with a small group of paid employees and a lot of volunteers and community support.

Services offered include a warm meal, laundry services, medical assistance, counselling, help obtaining identification so the youth can apply for jobs, and help finding housing, just to name a few.

My House’s budget is minimal and while they receive funding, they couldn’t function without donations of food, clothing, in-kind services and cash donations.

In November, Mission Community Foundation created a “Just $10” campaign to raise funds for MY House as a philanthropy project for 2017. The Foundation collected money for three weeks with the help of local credit unions.

Thanks to the generosity of people in and around Mission they were able to collect $1,385. The Foundation purchased 20 high quality backpacks and Carlo Billinger, board member, presented them along with a cheque for $1,000 to purchase items to fill the backpacks.

Mission Community Foundation has a permanent fund set up for MY House and donations are always gratefully accepted with tax receipting for any donation of $10 or more. If you’d like to donate through the Foundation you can contact Angie Hetlinger at 604-826-5322.

If you are interested in supporting MY House directly, you can contact Calvin William at 604-287-7200 or the Mission Community Services Society at 604-826-3634.
