Gala draws in the stars

Mission Hospice Society's Hollywood Gala raises money for organization

Stars of the stage, screen and the music scene appeared at the Hollywood Nights Gala of Mission Hospice Society (MHS), held April 20 at the Best Western.

Marilyn Munroe (aka Sarah Copeland) was joined by Charlie Chaplin (alias Patrick Hamilton) winning the awards for the best star likeness. Also in the running were Meryl Streep (Vicki Gould) known for her role in The Devil Wears Prada, country singer Kenny Hess (Bob Reed), Audrey Hepburn (aka Rochelle MacPherson) and more.

There were appearances by Olivia Newton-John, Jackie Chan, Indiana Jones, Jack Nicholson, Katy Perry, James Bond and even one major film director. Cora, Countess of Grantham from Downtown Abbey (Dianne Smart) also graced us with her presence along with her husband, the Earl of Grantham. In control of the evening’s proceedings was George Clooney (Cliff Prang).

Momentary Lapz provided the music and the stars showed us some great moves on the dance floor. Check out photos from the evening at missionhospice.bc.ca.

Awards were presented to our many sponsors including The Mission Record, our Gold Media Sponsor.

Hospice society executive director Jane Cooper announced at the event that the organization will be moving to new premises in June. Staunch supporters, the Rock family, have purchased a house close to Mission Memorial Hospital and have agreed to lease it to MHS.

Beeru Mannan of Rockwell’s Catering, with the help of his chef, Chris Schufelt and team produced a meal worthy of the event. Alongside the dessert buffet was a Hollywood-themed cake made by Say It With Cakes from Abbotsford.

The gala is an annual event which raises money for the hospice society.
