The 2014 BC Winter Games are coming to Mission in February.

One of the biggest factors contributing to a successful BC Winter Games is a sufficient number of volunteers.

And this weekend is your opportunity to put your name down to help out next February.

The BC Winter Games have been staged throughout the province since 1979. Through the years the BC Games have evolved, grown, and changed, but what has remained constant is the commitment and dedication of volunteers.

More than 2,000 people are needed to help the more than 1,000 young athletes compete in Mission and surrounding area Feb. 20-23, 2014.

The BC Games relies on volunteers in every facet of its operation.

• Volunteers ensure that citizens come together in a community celebration of pride and enthusiasm, that athletes have a quality multi-sport experience that will assist them as they continue through their development, and that coaches and officials gain experience and opportunities that will further develop sport in our province. Simply put, volunteers are essential to the BC Games.

• President Brian Antonson and a team of 16 volunteers make up the Board of Directors while close to 125 others have taken on key positions forming committees to plan and stage the Games.

Volunteer sign up takes place Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mission Leisure Centre.
