Construction begins on new downtown Mission bus stop

Completion expected by end of month on new stop between Welton and James Street

Construction has begun on a new bus stop in downtown Mission.

The new stop will be on First Avenue between Welton Street and James Street, with work already underway as of Wednesday (Jan. 8).

The City of Mission awarded the construction contract to BA Blacktop with the project expected to be completed by January 31 if weather cooperates.

The proposed works include the removal of plants and landscaping, a concrete curb bulge extension and installation of “Belgard Old Country” paver, adjustments to street furniture and signage to suit, and asphalt patching.

“During construction, every effort will be made to minimize the inconvenience to businesses and pedestrians however, with work of this nature, some inconvenience will be unavoidable, and we ask for your patience and cooperation during this time,” a letter from the City of Mission to downtown businesses reads.

The city says the sidewalk will remain open throughout the work day.
